Contradictions to Jesus’s teachings

What are the contradictions and who taught them?

The contradictions to Jesus teachings in the New Testament were bought in by those who came later after the departure of Jesus.  Most of these contradictions were written by St. Paul, formally known as Saul of Tarsus.  It is VITAL to note that Paul NEVER MET Jesus NEVER sat with Jesus, NEVER Spoke with Jesus, NEVER WALKED with Jesus – yet he has written well over 15 books of the New Testament.  Let’s see what Paul said in comparison to what Jesus and all the other prophets said and let’s lay it side but side and see it for what it really is.  If anything – current day Christianity was formed by Paul and not Jesus.  And here’s WHY…

 JESUS’s & PROPHETS TEACHINGS

  PAUL’S TEACHINGS

1. Matt 19:17 “…If you want to enter eternal life, keep the commandments.”
1. Romans 3:21-22 “…God makes us just and holy without the need of a law.  God makes us holy by means of faith in Jesus Christ…”

2. Psalms 119: 9-11 “How can young people keep their lives pure? By obeying your commands.  With all my heart I try to serve you; keep me from disobeying your commands…”
2. Romans 10:9-10 “…Because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart you believe that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. By believing from the heart, you obtain holiness; by confessing the faith with you lips you are saved” (lip service essentially)
3. Leviticus 18:5 “Keep my practices and ordinances for whoever keeps them finds life.  I am Yahweh”

3. Romans 3:28 “For we conclude that a person is put right with God through faith and not by doing what the law commands”
4. Matt 5:17-18 “Do not think that I have come to remove the law and the prophets.  I have come to fulfill them.  I tell you this; as long as the heaven and the earth last, not one letter of the law will change until it is fulfilled” (Jesus’ words)

Deuteronomy 4: 2 “Do not add anything to what I command you, and do not take anything away.  Obey the commands of the Lord your God that I have given you” (Moses’ words)

4. Romans 10:4 “For Christ has bought the law to an end, so everyone who believes is put right with God…” (Yes, you read correctly…unbelievable…isn’t it?  It’s in the Bible – please check – wording may differ depending on which version or translation you have)
5.  Deuteronomy 24: 16 “The fathers shall not be put to death for the sin of their children, nor the children for the sin of their fathers.  Everyone must pay for his own sin.
(Personal accountability of one’s sins – this is a teaching that was taught by Moses – if Jesus did not come to remove the law and prophets teachings – then this fundamental law has been removed by PAUL)
5.  Romans 5:18 “So then as one sin condemned all people, in the same way one righteous act sets all people free and gives them eternal life…’

1 Corinthians 15: 22” Because of Adam, all people die. So because of Christ, all will be made alive.” (Doctrine of the original sin – Paul started this)

6.  Jeremiah 17:5  “This is what Yahweh says “Cursed be the man who trusts in human beings and depends on a mortal for his life, while his heart turns away from Yahweh”
6.  Romans 5:9 “Having become holy and just in his blood, with much more reason we shall live through him, without fearing punishment.”
7.  Leviticus 18:5 “Keep my practices and ordinances for whoever keeps them finds life.  I am Yahweh”
(God says the commandment is life)
7.  Romans 7:11 “Sin took advantage of the commandment to deceive me, and bought me death through the commandment”
(Paul says the commandment is death)
8.  Isaiah 30:15  “For thus said the Lord, Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel; “In repentance and rest is your salvation

8.  Hebrews 1:3  After achieving forgiveness for the sins of all human beings, he sat down in heaven at the right hand side of (Paul says in Jesus is your salvation)

9. Matt 19:16-17 16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”
17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”

9.  Acts 16: 29- 3129 The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”  - (what about following Jesus’ example by keeping God’s commandments?)

10.  Leviticus 11:7-8 “And the pig, because it parts the hoof and is cloven-footed but does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. You shall not eat any of their flesh, and you shall not touch their carcasses; they are unclean to you.”

10. Romans 14:14 “I am fully convinced that no food is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean.” (Paul is giving his own opinion - he begins this verse by saying “I am fully convinced…”  He didn’t even say Jesus said or God said etc. – this is Paul on his own authority.)

11.  Exodus 31:13-14 “You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, ‘Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the Lord, sanctify you. You shall keep the Sabbath, because it is holy for you…”

Ezekiel 20:20 “And keep my Sabbaths holy that they may be a sign between me and you, that you may know that I am the Lord your God.”
11. Romans 14:5 “One person esteems one day as better than another, while esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind” (make your own law – the criteria to something being right or wrong is your belief in it – be fully convinced that it is correct – and it will be!!  According to Paul the criterion is NOT whether God commanded it or not!  No wonder everyone is confused.)

Colossians 2:16 “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.”
12.  Genesis 14:10-17 “This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you. He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised. Every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house or bought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring, both he who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money, shall surely be circumcised. So shall my covenant be in your flesh an everlasting covenant. Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.” (This is the commandment of God as passed through to the prophets Abraham and Moses)

Matt 5:1919 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.”  (Jesus own words)
12.  Galatians 6:15 “Circumcision and un-circumcision don't mean anything. What really counts is the creation of a new nature.”

Galatians 5:6 “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.
(Paul taught that the spiritual aspect of circumcision made the physical aspect irrelevant and unnecessary and even a BURDEN and not a benefit.  He implied that as long as you love God – the law does not apply to you)

Galatians 5:3 “I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law.”
(Essentially Paul is implying that you don’t want to get circumcised because that means you would have to keep all the laws – and do you really want to do that?  It’s so hard to keep all the laws so just believe in Jesus and this means you can keep the traditions of your forefathers and you’ll be ok.)

Other contradictions:

There are countless other contradictions within the New Testament where Paul directly or implicitly contradicts Jesus teachings by using a mixture of Greek philosophy whereby the savior of humanity was a man and through this man/god – salvation was achieved.

This was Greek mythology incorporated into Jesus teachings in order to make it more palatable to the gentiles.  He took away the aspect of keeping the law to the notch as this was too much of a burden for the gentiles who already had their own religion going.  That’s how he justified all the jurisprudence discrepancies by saying that all that was needed was Faith – forget the law.

Zeus:  Supreme God - Father of all gods and men

Hercules:  son of god, half man half god
Saviour of mankind

The Greeks believed in Zeus - the superior god who is the father of gods and men.  God of thunder who had marital relations with a human woman and had a son who is half god half human.  Son's name is Hercules.  Hercules is some kind of saviour for the people.  He has super powers.  So you can see how such a concept of Jesus being some kind of deity would have been easily accepted by the gentiles around the area at that time.  It was not different to what they already believed.

Even SATAN believes in God and knows who Jesus is.  The difference between Satan and servants of God is that they OBEY and submit to God’s commands. The servants and prophets of God submit to God’s laws and did not create their own legislation.  So…let’s put the test down to see what it all means.

Paul’s ambition was to spread his own version of Jesus teachings at all cost – even if it meant trimming a few things here and there so that people found it didn't really look different from what they were currently practising.
Here is a list of few laws that Paul compromised - with NO authority from God.

List of some verses where Paul trivializes keeping God’s law by rationalizing that the heart matters:

1.      Galatians 6:15
“Circumcision and un-circumcision don't mean anything. What really counts is the creation of a new nature.”

2.      1 Corinthians 9:19-23
“Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20 To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law) – (so Jesus had different laws to God’s laws!), so as to win those not having the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. 23 I do all this for the sake of the gospel that I may share in its blessings.

3.      1 Timothy 1:8-9
“ 8 We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. 9 We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers…” (Paul’s teaching is so confusing…we NEED to keep the law in order to be righteous – how else can you be righteous if you have no knowledge of the law?  Knowledge is light to the path and is a guidance – that is why God gave the 10 commandments to Moses – this knowledge guides us to righteousness”)

4.      1 Corinthians 7:17-20
” 17 Nevertheless, each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them, just as God has called them. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches. (This is Paul’s gospel and he makes is blatantly clear that he is the one that is laying this rule down to all the churches! WOW!) 18 Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man uncircumcised when he was called? He should not be circumcised. 19 Circumcision is nothing and un-circumcision is nothing. Keeping God’s commands is what counts. (And what is God’s command? Abraham, the father of all nations, was the first to be circumcised as God ordered.  Jesus was circumcised and he never taught to trivialize any of the health commandments. This inconsistency and outright contradiction by Paul has caused many well-meaning Christians so much confusion on what laws to keep and what laws not to keep.)

Did Jesus keep all the laws of God?  Was he circumcised?  Did he eat what was lawful?  Did he keep the laws? Jesus has already interpreted the Law for us! He has shown us how to live, through his obedience to the Torah/law. Yet… we don’t follow his example and his teachings – rather we follow Paul’s teachings which are different to what Jesus taught.

    1. 1 John 2:4  “If we say that we know Him, but do not obey His commands, we are liars and there is no truth in us”
    2. 1 John 2:6 “If we say that we remain in union with God we should live just as Jesus Christ did
    3. Matthew 15:9 “ They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules”

CONCLUSION:

Jesus teachings was to obey God's laws as this is where salvation is.  Paul taught a different gospel.  It could be because he was adhering to the teaching that gentiles could keep the basic laws of Noah.  According to Judaism there are 7 basic laws that gentiles can keep and still achieve salvation without having to fulfil all the other laws of Judaism.  I will have to get more information on this teaching and post up here later.

So what Paul may have been doing with the best of intentions is to adhere to Judaism himself but not place that burden on the gentiles - but his twist was that it was because Jesus had made those other laws irrelevant by his death.  Which also confused the Jews.  Here is the link to prove that Paul still kept the sacrifical laws after Jesus death:  Paul still sacrificed animals after Jesus death

  1. I feel that Leesa’s blog leaves more questions rather than answers and to break down every question to give an answer would require a very large thesis for which most of us don’t have the time. However I can boldly state that I believe that the Bible is inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16). It is the very word of God, written. Therefore, I believe that the Bible is true and coherent. It does not teach us things that are false. It does not contradict itself. I believe this because Jesus Christ has made himself real to me and has shown himself to be the trustworthy Son of God. He has taught me that the Scriptures cannot be broken (John 10:35). He commissioned apostles to teach the church and promised to lead them into all truth (John 16:13). And he has given us his Spirit to open our eyes to see reality for what it is (1 Corinthians 2:14-15). So we have come to receive his Word as the very Word of God (1 Thessalonians 2:13), free from error and contradiction, because God is true and not a God of confusion.

Having said this, this does not mean that there are no problems for us in the Bible. We are finite. We are sinful. We are culturally biased. And language itself can confuse us when different words carry the same meaning, and when the same words carry different meanings. Take the simple English word "rock." It might mean a stone, or a kind of music, or something you do in a rocking chair, or a man's name. Or take the Greek word zelos which can be "jealousy" in a bad sense or "zeal" in a good sense. So if someone says to you, "I think we should strive to overcome all zelos in our lives," before you agree or disagree what should you ask him? You should ask him to define the term zelos. Or consider an Englishman saying, "Let's play football this afternoon," to which you respond, "No, I'd like to play soccer." What a waste if you spent the afternoon arguing about which you should play, when the word "football" to an Englishman, and the word "soccer" to a Papua New Guinean mean the same thing.

So the same words can have different meanings. And different words can have the same meanings. The inspiration of the Word of God is like the incarnation of the Son of God. When the Son of God became a human being he became vulnerable to abuse and death. When the Word of God became human language, it became vulnerable to ambiguity and misunderstanding.

God becoming man did not originate in the mind of Greeks nor is it taken from Greek mythologies but is essentially a biblical concept initiated by God in Genesis when he said that the seed (Messiah) of the woman shall crush the head of the serpent. This is confirmed through other books of the Old Testament and Psalms. Even Jesus never denied this when Peter said about him, “you are the Christ the SON of the living God.”

To Christians who may be seeking and answer to the contradictions between the teachings of Jesus and Peter, I would like to refer you to the below site. The read is long but provides some clear answers.

  2. Context, Intent and Purpose are an important part of interpretation. To read Scriptura as if these things didn't matter would make Jesus a heretic and Paul an untaught fraud.
